- Shisha
Belly dance is called many things and
is many things to many people. To some
it is the dance of the belly. To others
it is Raks Sharqi. To some it is Eastern
Dance, or the Danse Orientale. And some
people call it belly dance while others
call it bellydance.
Many people use belly dance as a method
of exercise. Others keep it as an artform
or discipline. Further still, some women
see it as a great opportunity to get together,
have an amazing time and learn about their
bodies, their abilities, and themselves.
Krysty, new resident to Stettler, Alberta,
Canada, is also known as Shisha, her belly
dance name. She has worked as a belly
dance instructor in Winnipeg, Manitoba,
at one point teaching up to four classes
a week. Eagerly she looks forward to doing
the same again.
Shisha's
Belly Dance Primer
Many times when people
are interested in learning belly dance,
they feel shy, nervous and unsure about
what to expect. Shisha's Belly Dance
Primer is Krysty's way of helping more
women to experience the joy of belly
dance without the usual worries and
fears.
Belly dance can be taught gently, with
ease to the movements. It can also be
taught in a way that everyone can understand.
A 'primer' is a class meant to help
people experience something such as
belly dance without it being too formal.
Shisha's Belly Dance Primer is meant
to introduce women new to belly dance,
to the movements and terminology they
can expect in any professional class.
Learning
Belly Dance should be fun!
It's truth that weight
problems are at almost epidemic proportions
across North America. The requirement
for exercise is at least 30 minutes
a day of movement, whether it's walking,
jogging, bike riding - any kind of physical
activity that moves you for 30 whole
minutes is a plus!
But if people are going to get up and
move, they need to be comfortable. They
need to enjoy what they're doing, if
there is any hope at all of them doing
it again tomorrow, and the next day,
and the next day. Belly dancing is a
FUN exercise and can easily take up
an hour of time for someone lost in
the sound of the music and the movements
belly dance teaches. Shisha's Belly
Dance Primer is intended to help people
who want to exercise and move, every
day. Previous students exclaimed that
their posture improved and that they
felt more agile not just in class but
out in the rest of the world too.
How
Belly Dance Helps!
Each instructor is
unique. Although many are skilled
and very disciplined, the dance changes
for each class and with each instructor.
How one person interprets their teacher
and teaches the new things they themselves
have just learned will be different
from how other students interpret
the same teacher and pass the movements
down. That is why having experience
with Tribal belly dance is so important,
as it is a style of belly dance that
acknowledges the language of each
style and the sense of community belly
dance can have.
Cabaret belly dance is very good at
helping women to realize the beautiful
creature they innately have inside
themselves. Many women who come to
belly dance are more mature in their
experiences, while some are just blossoming
into womanhood. Learning a dance that
helps women to feel secure in their
abilities and their bodies is a wonderful
gift to women young and old. Older
women who don't want to learn to be
sexy but want to learn to just feel
beautiful find this in the dance.
Young women who are reaching out towards
the sexual world but haven't a great
deal of experience with the regal
and noble woman within just yet find
lessons to be learned in the dance
classes.
Combining her experience
with both Tribal and Cabaret belly
dance, Shisha shares with women young
and old crucial elements of the dance
that soon become lessons for life.
Dance is an amazing way to feel free,
confident and safe, while re-learning
what the female form can do. It's
a natural thing that souls and hearts
already do, and the body is always
eager to follow.
